This document outlines the steps for entering time into the Expert Time application to ensure your efforts are accurately credited within the appropriate time period. Follow these steps to correctly submit and process your time entries, thereby ensuring accurate accounting and billing.
To properly enter time into the Expert Time app, ensuring it's credited during the correct period, follow these steps. Begin by observing how time entries appear under the status column upon certain actions. Notice two time entries marked as pending while the incomplete time editor displays a button indicating two.

Create another time entry. If you choose to submit the item instead of releasing it, it will display as pending. The incomplete time editor count will increase by one.

Highlight one of the entries and release it. Notice that the incomplete time editor reflects a count of two. Pending time is not entered into the system; it remains in the Expert Time application until you release it, at which point it is submitted to the database.

However, it will not be processed until you post it. Once posted, it will state, "Posted work in progress," and will be processed during the nightly accounting batch job. This batch job incorporates all posted WIP time entries, and at this point, it is credited toward your billed amount.

In the posted WIP stage, before processing, you can still edit the time entry as needed. You may modify the client matter, transaction date, narrative, duration, or choose to delete it entirely. Posting your time does not prevent you from making these edits.

When highlighting and releasing an item, you retain the ability to delete or edit it. However, it will not appear in reporting until posted. A straightforward method is to click the Expert tab on the far left and select the Options button.

Upon opening the Options, you'll find a Submission tab that allows you to select "Automatically release submitted time." Click OK, and when you create a new time entry and hit the Submit button,

it transitions from pending to released. Released time is entered into the database but isn't processed nightly. To process it and credit it toward your hours, highlight all entries and click Post.

These are the recommended steps for entering your time. If you encounter issues or have reasons for not wanting to post your time, consult with accounting. They possess the capability to edit your time entries even after submission for processing.

Thank you for reviewing this process.
