The following instructions guide you through the process of adding and utilizing the Sketch field type within Fulcrum. This feature enhances data collection by enabling digital sketching, eliminating the need for external apps or physical paper sketches. The steps below will detail the integration of sketch fields into your existing data collection workflow.
The Sketch field is a new feature in Fulcrum that allows for integrated sketching within your data collection workflow. This eliminates the need for paper sketches or third-party apps. For instance, in a manhole inspection, inspectors can directly sketch the layout of pipe flows within the application.

To begin, add this new field to your data collection app. Upload a background image that resembles a manhole from a top-down perspective.

Proceed to drag and drop the background image into the sketch field definition. Administrators have the option to leave the sketch background blank for a plain canvas or to provide an outline or background for user guidance. In this scenario, save the app to observe its appearance on the mobile platform.

Synchronize to ensure the latest changes, including the sketch field, are updated. Conduct a manhole inspection report by filling out the necessary fields, then initiate the sketch process. The uploaded background will appear, allowing you to sketch directly onto the field.

You can incorporate shapes, such as arrows, into your sketch. If adjustments are needed, you can undo and recreate these shapes as required.

Select a color, such as orange, for your shapes. Use the pen tool to outline the pipe shape freehand. Pressing and holding at the end of the stroke will complete the action.
