Understanding Point Expiry Configuration

Introduction

Welcome to the Point Expiry Configuration Guide for Nector! 🎉

This guide walks you through setting up and managing Point Expiry — an important feature that helps you maintain an active, engaged customer base by encouraging timely redemptions.

By configuring point expirations and reminders, you can:

  • Motivate customers to use their points before they expire 💰
  • Send automated notifications for upcoming expiries ✉️
  • Maintain a healthy loyalty ecosystem that drives repeat purchases 💫

Let’s explore how to set it up step by step!

Step 1 - Introduction to Point Expiry

The Point Expiry feature ensures your loyalty program stays balanced by automatically expiring unused coins after a certain period. It also allows you to communicate proactively with customers.

How to do it: From your dashboard, open the Features section and look for the Expiry module. This is where you’ll find all point expiry settings and communication tools.

For enhanced engagement, navigate to the 'Features' section. Within this, select 'Expiry.' Here, you will find the 'Point Expiry' option. Click on 'Configure.

Step 3 - Exploring Additional Settings

Once enabled, new sections will appear — including:

  • Notification Settings ✉️
  • Expiry Settings

These let you control when coins expire and how customers are notified.

💡 Tip: Configure both settings together for best results — expiry defines when points lapse, and notifications ensure customers are aware of it.

Once enabled, additional settings will become visible, including 'Notification Settings' and 'Expiry Settings.'

Step 4 - Setting the Expiry Period

In Expiry Settings, you can define how long points remain valid — anywhere from 2 months to 2 years.

💡 Best Practice: Align expiry duration with your average purchase cycle. For example, 6–12 months works well for frequent shoppers.Screenshot

Step 5 - Understanding Coin Expiry Behaviour

Coins automatically expire after the chosen validity period starting from the date they were credited. You can also decide when to notify customers before expiry to encourage redemption.

Example: Coins earned on January 1st will expire after 6 months if set accordingly.Screenshot

Step 6 - Scheduling Reminder Events

Choose when customers receive expiry reminders:

  • 1 day before expiry
  • 1 week before expiry
  • 1 month before expiry

💡 Tip: Sending a reminder one week before expiry typically gives customers enough time to act.Screenshot

Step 7 - Configuring Communication Channels

In Notification Settings, decide how customers will be notified:

  • 📧 Email
  • 📱 SMS
  • 🔗 Webhook
  • ⚙️ Event integration

Choose one or multiple channels depending on your communication strategy.Screenshot

Step 8 - Setting Up Email Notifications

For this setup, we’ll use Email as the notification method. Select the email channel from the available options.

💡 Tip: Email remains the most effective channel for loyalty reminders — it’s direct, measurable, and easy to personalize.Screenshot

Step 9 - Designing the Expiry Reminder Email

You can either:

  • Use Nector’s predefined Point Expiry template, or
  • Create a custom email template for brand consistency.

To customize, select Create Your Own Template, edit the design, and click Create to finalize.Screenshot

Step 10 - Completing the Setup

Once your expiry duration, reminders, and notifications are configured:

  • Save your settings.
  • Verify that your Point Expiry toggle is active.
  • Send a test email to confirm delivery.

Your Point Expiry system is now live and ready to keep your customers informed and engaged!
