This document provides detailed instructions on setting up and configuring Android devices using Hexnode to establish a secure and controlled usage environment. By enabling kiosk mode, organizations can restrict device access to specified apps or websites, ensuring users remain focused and preventing potential misuse. This guide covers everything from single and multi-app kiosk modes to device allowances with launcher customization, peripheral controls, and digital signage settings.
Begin by setting up Hexnode Android kiosk lockdown. The video tutorial provides an in-depth overview of securing and maintaining compliance in device usage. Kiosk mode restricts access to specific applications or websites, helping to prevent misuse and keeping users focused on their tasks.

Start with the single app kiosk mode, ideal for point-of-sale terminals, customer-facing screens, or other dedicated use cases. To configure, log into your Hexnode UI portal, navigate to Policies, and select New Policies. From there, you can create a new policy or choose an existing template. Choose the Android platform.

Select the Kiosk option.

Enter a name for the policy.

Under Kiosk Lockdown, explore the available configuration options.

In the Single App Kiosk Mode section, click on Configure. You will find several instructions for specific scenarios. Click the plus icon to select your app or file shortcut for the kiosk.

Select an app from the list, ensuring it is already installed on the device.

Proceed to the multi-app kiosk mode by navigating to Multi-App Kiosk under Android Kiosk Lockdown and clicking Configure.

Note that this action will remove any previously added single app kiosk profile.

Multi-App Kiosk Mode provides flexibility...

This mode is ideal for workplaces or business environments where multiple account management is necessary. It can be configured in either basic or advanced view. In Basic View, add apps or file shortcuts using the plus icon.

Once the apps are selected, click Done to complete the process.

In this section, customize the icon size. In Advanced View, drag and drop app icons onto a customizable grid, adjusting their positions as needed.

Adjust the orientation and grid size, as well as the icon size.

Preview the result before saving to maintain full administrative control while keeping work apps accessible.

Proceed to background apps configuration.

Background apps remain hidden but active, supporting functions like a dialer, camera, or system service invoked by another kiosk app.

Navigate to Android Kiosk Lockdown, access Background Apps, click Configure, and add the necessary apps. Use the plus icon to add multiple required apps.

These apps remain invisible on the home screen yet are accessible as needed. Now, explore Launcher Settings.

Customize the kiosk launcher by clicking Configure to choose the default app and set up auto-launch options. Adjust icon size, font color, font size, title bar, and personalize colors and logos to match your brand.

Proceed to peripheral settings.

Access Peripheral Settings and click on Configure to manage device-level controls, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth toggles, brightness adjustments, screen lock, or allowing users to exit the kiosk if necessary.

These options balance usability with lockdown security. Review the numerous options available, then proceed to kiosk screensaver settings.

Enable a kiosk screensaver to display images or videos when devices are idle, perfect for branding or digital signage. Navigate to Kiosk Screensaver under Kiosk Lockdown and click on Configure, then enable the screensaver.

Add images, videos, or files and folders as your screensaver.

Supported file formats include JPG, PNG, MP4, or MKV.

Adjust looping

and other display customizations, such as transition effects and idle time before activation.

Explore display customizations available here.

Review the website kiosk setup, which restricts devices to a specified set of organizational websites.

Navigate to Website Kiosk Settings under Android Kiosk Lockdown and click Configure.

Choose from three browser options: Hexnode Browser Lite, Hexnode Kiosk Browser, or another specified browser.

First, explore Hexnode Browser Lite, designed for single-tab focused browsing, ideal for web apps, forms, or information kiosks. After selecting Hexnode Browser Lite under Website Kiosk Settings, enable Open Web Apps in full screen. Whitelist

the URLs you wish to permit, ensuring only these websites are accessible while others remain blocked. In Hexnode Kiosk Browser, opt for a single or multi-tab option for setups requiring multiple site access.

Hexnode Kiosk Browser configuration is suitable for classrooms or offices needing limited yet flexible access. Here, you can also specify allowlisted websites.

Alternatively, choose another preferred browser.

Specify the chosen browser in this section.

For some devices, only whitelisted sites via web content filtering are accessible.

On other devices, any site can open if the option is enabled.

Utilize the multi-app mode by adding both browser and web apps or operate in a single app mode with the browser running as a background app.

Explore advanced website kiosk settings.

Navigate to Advanced Website Kiosk Settings and click Configure for detailed control over user interaction.

Enable or disable navigation buttons, manage the address bar visibility, clear cookies or cache at session end, and restrict downloads and pop-ups. Set custom home pages or startup URLs.

Take advantage of the numerous granular control options available for customization.

The light browser is simple and single-tabbed. Advanced settings offer a fully customizable data experience. Once configuration is complete, head to Policy Targets to associate devices with the policy.

Click Add Devices and select the devices for policy application. You can also include device groups, users, user groups, or domain IOUs. Afterward, save the policy.

The policy you have created is now visible.

To associate a device with a policy post-saving, select it and navigate to Manage, then Associate Targets, and select the target devices.

And that's it! You have explored the Hexnode Android Kiosk Lockdown in depth. These features collectively help in creating a secure environment.
